The Department of Economics successfully organized the “Documentary Research Conference 2024” on December 18, 2024, under the theme, “Decent Work, Decent Lives: Shaping Pakistan’s Economic Future.” This theme highlights the global effort to promote employment that ensures dignity, equity, and sustainability.
Jointly sponsored by Stepstone Overseas Education PVT LTD and the National Bank of Pakistan, the event brought together researchers, academics, and stakeholders to discuss ways to foster inclusive and sustainable economic growth in Pakistan.
The conference was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ilyas, Dean and Chairperson of the Economics Department, who delivered a heartfelt welcome speech. Dr. Ilyas expressed gratitude to the sponsors and applauded the dedicated efforts of the event organizer, Dr. Muhammad Umer Farrukh, Assistant Professor of Economics.
Prof. Dr. Shazia Bashir, Vice Chancellor of GC Women University, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In her inspiring address, Dr. Bashir emphasized the significance of creating opportunities for women, especially in marginalized areas. “If we want to empower women in Pakistan, we must prioritize providing decent work opportunities that ensure dignity and equality,” she remarked.
The event concluded with the distribution of souvenirs. Chief Guest Prof. Dr. Shazia Bashir honored the Guest of Honors, Mr. Hashaam Ahmad, Director of STEPSTONE Overseas Education Foundation, and Mr. Zahid Abbas, Representative of the National Bank of Pakistan, along with the winners of the documentary competition.
