Vice Chancellor General of the Republic of Turkey His Excellency Mehmet Ayman Şimşek visited GC Women’s University Sialkot.
The Consul General of the Republic of Turkey, Mr. Mehmet Ayman Şimşek, along with his wife, visited the Government College Women’s University, Sialkot and participated in the ceremony organized on the occasion of Turkey’s Independence Day as a special guest.
The event started with the recitation of Holy Quran, after which Turkish Cultural Performance and Art Exhibition was organized by the Department of Fine Arts of the University. The Consul General appreciated the creativity and cultural performances of the students. In the ceremony, the students presented a performance on Kalam-e-Iqbal, upon which the entire hall erupted with applause.
Consul General Mehmet Ayman Şimşek also planted a commemorative tree in the university premises and cut a special Republic of Turkey Independence Day cake at the end of the ceremony. In his address, he said that he will take immediate steps to start teaching, research and Turkish language course with GC Women University, Sialkot. He also expressed deep interest in female sportswomen and assured them of future support.
In his address, Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Shazia Bashir highlighted the eternal friendship between Pakistan and Turkey, and the intellectual and spiritual relationship between Allama Iqbal and Maulana Rumi in the light of Iqbal’s poetry. He requested the Consul General to support the establishment of a Turkish language center on the model of GC University Lahore so that female students can directly benefit from Turkish language and culture.
Additionally, the Vice-Chancellor emphasized further promotion of internships, student exchange programs, and academic and research collaborations.
In the end, he appreciated the efforts of Director Student Affairs Dr. Shafuta Firdous, Chairperson of Fine Arts Department Ms. Riza Rehman and the entire management team for organizing this successful event and described the event as an important development in strengthening the cultural and educational ties between Turkey and Pakistan.
