Visit of the Chinese Consul General Zhao Shiren to Government College Women University Sialkot — MoU Signed and Scholarships Worth One Million Rupees Announced for Students

The Consul General of the People’s Republic of China, Mr. Zhao Shiren, visited the Government College Women University Sialkot (GCWUS) on the special invitation of Prof. Dr. Shazia Bashir, Vice Chancellor GCWUS.
The visit was marked by a colorful celebration organized by the Department of Fine Arts in collaboration with the Directorate of Student Affairs, featuring an art exhibition and a Chinese cultural show. The Consul General deeply appreciated the creativity, talent, and enthusiasm displayed by the students.
Students of GCWUS also presented a performance on the poetry of Allama Iqbal and a special act depicting Pak–China friendship, which captivated the audience and received thunderous applause.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shazia Bashir warmly welcomed the distinguished guests to the City of Iqbal, highlighting the deep-rooted historical and cultural ties between Pakistan and China. She proposed enhanced collaboration in the fields of education, research, student exchange, and scholarships, and suggested the establishment of a Chinese Language Center and a Confucius Institute at GCWUS to promote mutual understanding and linguistic learning.
In his address, Consul General Zhao Shiren expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and lauded the artistic and cultural performances of the students. He announced scholarships worth Rs. 1 million for GCWUS students and assured continued cooperation in future scholarships, research projects, and academic initiatives.
To further strengthen academic and cultural ties, an official Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also signed between GC Women University Sialkot and the Chinese Consulate, aimed at promoting cooperation in education, research, cultural exchange, and student development programs.
The event concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony, symbolizing friendship, unity, and growing collaboration between the two nations.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shazia Bashir appreciated the dedicated efforts of Dr. Shagufta Firdous, Director Student Affairs, Mr. Raza Rahman, Chairperson Department of Fine Arts, and the organizing team for successfully conducting the event. She termed the occasion a significant milestone in strengthening Pak–China friendship and academic cooperation.
